5 out of 5 stars Great All-In One   June 17, 2010

My old desktop was six years old and I have a newborn son at home so it was time to eliminate some clutter and some cords. After looking at the Gateway and HP touchscreen PCs I realized that this Lenovo is a better value because I had no need for the touch screen on those other machines. The computer is fast, has an amazing screen and great sound. I really like that the hard drive can be accessed for replacement in case of failure. The keyboard and mouse are also pretty slick although I miss the numeric pad on the keyboard.

My only complaint is that the integrated webcam is not any better than a netbook. We skype with my son's grandparents all of the time and will probably have to buy a better camera soon.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful computer   June 22, 2010

This is a GREAT full-featured/loaded computer; and at $750, it's an absolute must-buy steal!

I bought the VISTA version of this last year with the free upgrade to Windows 7 (prior to Windows 7 launch). It got decent reviews on C-net and Consumer Reports. C-net criticized it due to a the possibility of pinching a finger at the base of the computer; I think you have to be pretty dumb to have that happen! The positive trade-off: it is a beautiful looking computer (compare it to HP Touchsmart)! The Lenovo is not a touchscreen computer--I don't need or want a touchscreen anyway.

Prior to the Windows 7 upgrade, I was very irritated by the lengthy boot-up time of 2-3 minutes; however, after the Windows 7 upgrade, it boots up reasonably quickly.

The instructions are poor. I had to figure out many controls and features on my own.

I highly recommend this item, especially at this price!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Value - great system   July 8, 2010

I reviewed every all-in-one available in this price range. I purchased this system based on what you get for the money in that range ($700-$1000). I could not be happier with this system. It is easy to setup/use, has great sound. It also has a wii type game-playing system that is fun for the kids (comes with 7 wii-type games - Bowling, Tennis, snow-ball fight, etc...).

I don't see any negatives whatsoever with this system, it's limitations are easy to understand, but I believe they have packed quite a bit into a small area and produced one of the best values out there!

5 out of 5 stars The BEST All-In-One for the Money   July 16, 2010

I've had my eye on this AIO computer since I first spotted it here on Amazon, when they had it on sale for $900 (list price $1150).
Being an astute learner and buyer of computer and electronic products, I've scoured all over the Internet for more info and reviews of it. Every major and even obscure websites had glowing reviews on it, but that was when it first came out in early 2009. Back then, this configuration cost $1300, but with a weaker video card (then it was an ATI Mobility Radeon 3650, now a 4650).

Since almost 1.5 years have passed, I wanted to compare what was out there that was around $900.
Even at that price most recent competitor setups still didn't have the same value, and when this thing dipped to $750, it was just too hard to resist.
And right after I got it the price jumped back up again, so I'm even more glad I got it when I did.
The reason why I didn't immediately jump on it was because after research I found out the newer IdeaCentre A700 would be coming out soon (and is out by now). I was piqued by the fact that the new A700's would be carrying iCores (I was going to go all out and get the i7 setup). But right now the top setup (without goodies like the Blu-ray player like this A600 has) is around $1300.
Yes, the new A700 has touchscreen, and a faster processor. But the target of All-In-One computers isn't to have the fastest speed, it's to have the best all-together experience, as most people who buy this wouldn't and shouldn't buy it to have the fastest computer. And people who have used touchscreen can tell you that it's not the most practical thing (the software for it isn't as cool as it looks like in "minority Report," so right now using the mouse and keyboards is still the faster input.
Now that I have this, I've found out you don't need to have the fastest processor to do what an AIO computer is meant for. I use it to surf the net, watch Blu-rays, watch TV (this thing even has a TV tuner!), fix up photos, email, etc. So for me this is perfect.
If this thing ever dips to $750 or lower, this is THE AIO computer to get - you won't regret it!

Other goodies:

1. The wireless keyboard has a really nice brushed metal feel and finish. The keys give great tactile feedback. It even has a nice touchpad if you're too lazy to use the mouse or remote/air mouse.
2. Which leads to the remote/air mouse/Internet phone/Wii-wannabe controller. It's awesome, trust me. Definitely a gimmick, but a surprisingly effective one!
3. Screen/monitor is excellent. Super bright, awesome contrast and saturation.
4. Sound is superb. Some expert reviewers said the sound was weak and hollow and tin-y. I wonder if they didn't configure it right, but mine sounds awesome. I guess make sure you have the latest Realtek audio drivers, and tweak the settings if necessary.
5. You can upgrade this thing a lot more than other AIO's. You can replace/upgrade the RAM memory, hard drive, the Blu-ray player, and the power hookup setup and the internal fans (I guess these could fail over time, but why?? lol).

Some small cons:

1. The touchpad on the leyboard replaces the numeric pad. I use the numeric pad for numbers (I'm used to the 10-key process), so it feels funny fumbling around with 2 hands for the number keys that's above the letter keys.
2. You can't output the video signal. No RCA or HDMI or even VGA out or in, so you can't output the video signal to like a big screen TV, and you can't input in like a PS3 or Xbox to use the monitor to play console games. There is, however, an optical audio out if you want to hook it up to a fancy audio setup (there's also, of course, an RCA audio out to use with headphones or regular speaker systems).
3. Can't play the latest games as this processor and video card setup is used mainly just to watch HD movies at most. Newer AIO's use the i3, i5, or i7 processors and with those you can play games better. But if yuo want to play the latest games, then you shouldn't play it with an AIO computer in the first place. For that purpose, I recommend the Gateway FX6803-25 Desktop (Black)

Hope this review helps.
And bottom line - if it drops to $750 or less - GET IT!

5 out of 5 stars Sweeet!   July 17, 2010

I got this computer a few weeks back when it was $750. Not a bad deal for a high definition tv and bluray player that is also a desktop. So far so good. I am extremely happy with this computer but there are a few issues:

The good:
- Decent size screen with awesome resolution.
- Bluray
- Good speakers. More like a tv than a computer.
- Good looking
- With Windows 7 it's a pretty fast computer.

The Bad:
- You can't use the blueray player out of the box. You'll need to buy additional software.
- If you have a set-top box for cable or satelite tv, windows media center won't let you connect to cable easily. You'll need to buy an additional remote with an infrared repeater for cable to work through the computer.
- The hard drive seems to make a bit of noise. It's minor and it easily drowned out with sound (the AC and/or fan do it), but it's there.
- The Wii-like games are WEAK! Seems like a bad and pointless immitation. I didn't get this computer for the games, but if you are considering this system for this feature, don't.
