5 out of 5 stars HP Touchsmart   August 21, 2010

This is a great computer. 20" screen is perfect size for me, the screen is bright and easy on the eyes. Love the wireless keyboard and mouse, takes up very little space on my counter. The sound quality from the speakers are the best I have experienced on any computer I`ve owned.Great Buy!

Bought this on Amazon 2 mths ago. Shipment arrived on time, and in good conidition.
Unit was really easy to install and configure, and works like a dream out of the box. Everyone at home loves using it. Great value, and AMD performance does not seem to be any inferior to Pentium on this one.

Small glitch with the system just a week ago, system just refused to boot up and had to call tech support, they quickly determined that it was due to static electricity and MS Windows. Unplugged and plugged the power supply, rebooted, installed the new MS Service pack, and it has been working well since.

Would have given this 5 stars if not for this problem.

Bought this for my wife who uses it largely for downloading music and books and for these uses the HP is very capable and fast. I rarely use this machine for business purposes such as stock market applications but I am sure it is very capable for those also. She is happy with the purchase

1 out of 5 stars Worst computer ever   July 25, 2010

I had this computer for less than a month and was more relieved than surprised when it died.

There were numerous errors with the touchsmart software that HP puts on the machine. It would open each time the monitor went on standby, but never completely load, rendering the computer inoperable until it was restarted. After a couple weeks, the machine started intermittently failing to power on. I called support and spoke to a completely worthless individual from India who suspected my surge protector (even though the 3 other pieces of hardware plugged into it still worked). I spontaneously powered on while I was on the phone so I replaced the surge protector with a UPS the next day and the machine worked for another 4 days before completely surrendering to the inevitable and refusing to ever come to life again.

In all fairness, I liked the design of the unit, specifically the way the wires were all hidden out of sight and the mordern look of the sleek black cpu/display. The wireless keyboard was decent as was the mouse. The touchscreen was OK, but they could learn a lot from the iphone as the accuracy was quite lacking and hitting a small target such as a web browser tab was sometimes difficult. Apparently Apple is way ahead on that technology as it seems much easier to tap what you're aiming for on the ipod touch and iphone.

I sent the dead HP back and ended up buying Gateway's comparable touch screen model. After a week, it seems better than the HP in most aspects. The HP had a better keyboard and mouse than Gateway and to me a more appealing look. But frankly if the Gateway only makes it a year, there's still no other comparison that matters. It's going to be a long time before I buy another HP computer.

This computer was defective from the moment I first turned it on. I never could load anything on it because it was constantly shutting down and giving me blue error screens. I called HP support within an hour of opening the darn thing and could barely understand the person I was talking to. She was no help but did open a case number for me. Gee, thanks, but I would prefer a computer that actually works. I am in the process of packing it up to send back to Amazon. At least then I'll only lose 15% of the purchase price instead of the entire amount.
